Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and working under the supervision or direction of regulated health professionals, the Care Team Assistant (CTA), provides direct, hands-on care based on the needs of the patient and program/or unit. As a member of the collaborative care team, the CTA is responsible for supporting patients' activities of daily living (AOL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). The CTA also reinforces patient and family teaching according to established guidelines and the plan of care.

 

The duties of the Care Team Assistant will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Continuing Care Assistant program 
  • Certified or eligible to be certified for Continuing Care Certification with Dept of Health and Wellness
    • If not currently certified, must obtain within one year of hire
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Certification and/or training in areas applicable to the position such as Rehabilitation, and Geriatric, Dementia and Alzheimer Care
  • Equipment specific education such as patient lifts (standing/floor/ceiling), bathing units (whirlpool tubs, showers) and other equipment as required
  • Effective communication skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of professional relationships
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of infection control practices, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and WHMIS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
  • Ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within their assigned areas
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Suite – E-mail, Internet, Meditech
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including significant lifting and bending
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

  • Short assignment, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$18.6678 - $20.1919 hourly
