About the Opportunity
The Volunteer Services program supports care and service delivery across the continuum of care that responds to the demographic, generational, cultural, health and Zone needs, and challenges inherent in volunteerism and, care and service delivery. The Nova Scotia Health program directs or recommends standards and services supporting volunteers who enhance patient care across Nova Scotia Health through more than 800 programs; that integrate and align with People Services and other program services and strategies; that ensure the principles and practices that guide the NSHA, IWK and Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) such as mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services this program provides and through the messages delivered.
Hospice Palliative Care in the Annapolis Valley is provided in many settings including but not limited to patients’ homes, hospice, hospitals. This position will be based in Kentville to support Valley Hospice on site, with some travel required throughout the Annapolis Valley to support the community volunteer visiting program.
In collaboration with Nova Scotia Health stakeholders and community partners, the Palliative Care Volunteer Program Consultant is responsible for training, engagement, and coordination of volunteers within Hospice Palliative Care programs, both in facilities including but not limited to Valley Hospice and community, in accordance with the standards outlined in the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement, the Nova Scotia Palliative Care Competency Framework 2017 and the Nova Scotia Community Hospice Residence Standards. Specific responsibilities include recruitment, screening, training, orientation of new volunteers, developing and supporting hospice palliative care volunteer programs and roles throughout the Annapolis Valley, and providing recognition to volunteers.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate in Volunteer Management an asset
- Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years recent related experience in health care, program management and/or volunteer management/administration.
- Experience with program development and implementation.
- Committed to the philosophy and principles of the Nova Scotia Palliative Care Competency Framework 2017.
- Excellent computer, administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of best practice related to volunteer resources and managing performance.
- Knowledge of the principles of Community Development and the volunteer community.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, measure and evaluate indicators.
- Travel will be required.

Compensation and Benefits
$31.39 - $39.23 Hourly
