About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the Manager, The Learning Institute for Healthcare Providers, within the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Program, the Simulation Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the design, delivery, and evaluation of simulation-based education for healthcare professionals. Working collaboratively with educators and other subject matter experts, the Simulation Specialist is responsible for the technical and operational management of simulation activities that enhance clinical competence, teamwork, communication, and patient safety.

The Simulation Specialist ensures the technical readiness and functionality of simulation equipment, including high- and low-fidelity manikins, task trainers, audiovisual recording systems, and associated software. This includes routine maintenance, troubleshooting, scenario building, and real-time operation of simulation assets or equipment during educational sessions. The Specialist also assists in the set-up, breakdown, and reset of simulated clinical environments to reflect realistic healthcare settings that support the intended learning objectives.

Beyond operational responsibilities, the Simulation Specialist contributes to curriculum planning and implementation, offering expert input on how to best integrate simulation tools into educational programs. They act as a resource and subject matter expert during the development and delivery of simulation scenarios and participate in the continuous improvement of simulation practices.

Simulation Specialists also contribute to the program’s technology-driven initiatives. They engage in innovative work such as integrating virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) into training, designing and producing custom task trainers, moulage, special effects make-up application, and developing silicone skin models. Their expertise often extends to 3D modeling and resin printing, enabling the creation of realistic, high-fidelity tools that enhance the overall learning experience.
