About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Nova Scotia Health (NSH) patients, staff, visitors, and assets. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and respectful environment in accordance with NSH policies, emergency response procedures, and applicable legislation. The Security Officer provides visible security presence, oversees proactive patrols, responds to emergencies, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders such as facilities management, healthcare teams, and law enforcement.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • One-year college program in Sheriff, Policing Competencies, Correctional Services, or Law Enforcement programs available through private colleges or law enforcement agencies required
  • Minimum one (1) year related experience required
  • Previous security experience in a healthcare or institutional environments and previous training as a Sherriff, Corrections Officer or Police Training is preferred
  • Required to maintain Special Constable status to retain the position
  • Security related training courses preferred – Use of Force, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Emergency Response
  • Familiarity with security technology (CCTV, access control systems, radios)
  • Ability to complete physical testing standards and be physically capable to be trained in the use of intermediate tools such as conducted energy equipment, batons, OC spray and shields
  • Must hold a valid NS driver’s license
  • Required to write clear, informative reports in English
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and make quick decisions under pressure
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and conflict de- escalation skills are essential
  • Competencies in other language an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly 

Compensation and Benefits

$33.65 - $37.99 hourly
