About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health (NSH) provides sustainable, safe, and high-quality health services that are accessible, people-centred, promote health and wellness and optimize the health of all Nova Scotians. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

The Nova Scotia Healthcare Infrastructure “More, Faster” Initiative is an initiative to realign care and services throughout the Central Zone. The initiative is the largest healthcare infrastructure project to take place in Nova Scotia.  This complex, multi-site, multi-phase project, and the active patient care environment within which the work is being delivered, combine to form a high-risk situation, in which effective engagement, well thought-through project management skills and strong leadership skills are necessary to mitigate many types of risk and ensure successful planning for healthcare infrastructure.

The term “operational readiness” is rooted in the principle that organizations, with the right preparation, are ready to deliver high quality, safe care and a desirable patient experience in a new space or facility. Through skilled planning and facilitation, operational readiness approaches and tools assess the ways in which people, processes and systems will be impacted by change and plans an efficient, safe, and well-coordinated transfer of services. This may include training and orientation, move planning, patient service ramp-down and ramp-up plans, communications and engagement.

Reporting to the Manager, Operational Readiness, the Project Manager will be responsible for leading and implementing strategic operational readiness activities for major healthcare infrastructure initiatives with Central Zone. The Project Manager will ensure the successful delivery of patient care and ancillary services as construction completes and new spaces come online.  The Project Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders as well as managing and forging relationships with key external stakeholders including Department of Health and Wellness, Department of Public Works, Build NS, consultants, architects, engineers, and contractors as required.

This role is one of two project managers within the team, who will work in partnership with other Operational Readiness team members to drive operational readiness planning and execution for healthcare infrastructure activities within the zone.
