About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Technical Manager of the Community Based Laboratories the Laboratory Technical Specialist performs and analyzes procedures offered by the divisions using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques under the direction of the technical management team and medical leadership. The Technical Specialist maintains and demonstrates a high level of technical expertise, with a focus on preanalytical processes. This position will have primary responsibility for pre-analytical process within the Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre including blood collection and specimen receiving and processing. The Technical Specialist will also support preanalytical processes in the other Community Based Laboratories.

 

The Technical Specialist oversees and provides technical support to staff, student placements and other NSH learners, and ensures a high quality and timely service to patients accessing laboratory services. The Technical Specialist demonstrates leadership skills and has some administrative responsibilities in designated areas. The Technical Specialist, working closely with the Laboratory Client and Support Centre, is responsible for the coordination of quality initiatives including maintaining and updating procedures, audits and staff competency assessments. Under the direction of the Technical Supervisor, the Technical Specialist is responsible for the implementation of corrective actions as required.  Other duties will include, but not limited to, inventory management, equipment compliance, and SIMS investigations.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Must be a graduate from an approved program in Medical Technology plus (3) three years’ experience in a laboratory setting
  • Must be licensed with NSRMLS and CSMLS
  • Experience with Cerner LIS preferred
  • Previous experience with Quality Assurance initiatives preferred
  • Must have demonstrated customer service skills; interpersonal skills: leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
  • In depth knowledge and technical expertise in Blood Collection an asset
  • Must be able to recognize abnormal situations and respond appropriately
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly 
  • Approximate 18-month term
  • Travel to other sites is required
  • Shifts may include weekends, evenings, and holidays

Compensation and Benefits

$38.91 - $49.63 Hourly
