Type of Employment: Permanent, Assignments, and Casual Relief Opportunities Available

How You Make an Impact
Looking for a nursing role that offers flexibility, variety, and the opportunity to build your skills across different clinical environments? A Permanent Resource Nurse (PRN) may be the perfect fit.
As a PRN, you’ll join a dedicated float team that provides staffing support across patient care units and service areas, giving you the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical environments while helping meet the needs of our teams and patients.
What makes the PRN role unique?
Choose a cluster of units that fit your experience and career interests. You’ll have the opportunity to identify a group of units that align with your interests, strengths, and skill set. Your cluster can provide variety while allowing you to focus on areas where you’re interested in growing. You’ll only be assigned to units where you have been appropriately oriented and trained.
With a PRN role, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Explore areas of nursing beyond a traditional permanent role
- Grow through educational and professional development opportunities
- Build a diverse clinical skill set to support your long-term career goals
PRNs will be assigned to an initial pod of units within Medicine, Surgery, or Heart Health at the QEII. You will receive the appropriate orientation and training to work safely and confidently within your assigned pod.
Your role is not limited to a single pod. As your experience and competencies grow, there may be opportunities to expand your clinical skills through additional orientation and training in other units and clinical areas, based on operational needs and available opportunities.
Flexibility that works for you
Build a schedule that works for you. Choose from full-time or part-time opportunities and a variety of scheduling options, including long-week/short-week rotations and four shifts on/five shifts off.
Shifts are primarily 12 hours, and applicable shift differentials are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
The Permanent Resource Nurse role offers variety to keep you engaged, the flexibility to support your life, and opportunities to keep learning and growing.
Compensation
- $31.74 – $35.81 per hour ($61,893 – $69,829 annually)
- Up to $37.06 per hour for LPNs with 25 years of experience
- Permanent Resource Nurse supplement of up to $3.50 per hour, in addition to the regular hourly rate and other applicable premiums
- Shift differentials are also available in accordance with the Collective Agreement

The PRN supplement increases with time in the position:
- First 6 months: +$0.50/hour
- 6–12 months: +$0.75/hour
- 2–24 months: +$1.00/hour
- After 24 months: +$3.50/hour
With 25 years of LPN experience and more than 24 months in the PRN position, you could earn up to $40.56 per hour, before applicable shift differentials.
