About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub is a first-of-its-kind centre of excellence for health research and innovation in Atlantic Canada, focused on leading health care thinking to deliver better solutions for patients and providers. Reporting directly to the Managing Lawyer Clinical and Corporate Law Group, the Legal Counsel acts as legal support for the Health Innovation Hub and Research teams. 

Legal Counsel provides legal advice and strategic direction to NSH employees and senior leadership with primary responsibility for the Research and Innovation teams; they analyze and provide advice on complex, sensitive and multidimensional problems, both independently and as a part of a team. 

Legal Counsel will lead drafting and review of key agreements related to intellectual property, commercialization and data use, and work closely with the Research Contracts team to provide support and advice on agreements related to research within Nova Scotia Health.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Bachelor of Law (LLB/JD) required
• Practising member or eligible to become a practising member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society required
• Minimum 8 years' relevant experience required
• Expertise drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including service agreements, software license agreements and data transfer agreements.
• Experience in intellectual property law, IP commercialization and technology transfer activities would be considered an asset.
• Demonstrated understanding of the clinical trial process would be considered an asset.
• A thorough understanding of relevant common law principles, statutes and legal procedures; strong research and analytical skills; effective interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written advocacy;
• Demonstrated ability to respond to client needs for quality legal services, to anticipate problems and to work effectively with clients toward resolutions.
• Effective in demanding circumstances, ability to offer creative and innovative solutions to complex challenges and adapt and thrive in a continuously changing and demanding environment.
• Ability to collaborate, as well as work independently, balancing competing priorities.
• Demonstrated computer skills
• Willingness to assume and manage a heavy workload to meet timing and project needs
• Very high level of judgment and initiative required

Hours

• Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Scale Type: Non-Union
Hourly Rate: $48.53 - $98.48
Annual Salary: $94,638 - $192,029
