About the Opportunity
Reporting to and under the direction of the Provincial Manager, Coding Classification & Terminology Standards, Clinical Documentation, Audit & Reporting and /or designate, the Coding Classification Specialist Health is responsible for providing accurate coding and abstraction of Inpatient, Day Surgery, and Emergency health information.
Coding & Abstracting
The Coding Classification Specialist through integration of clinical knowledge and information systems, contributes to quality, patient safety, decision making and planning of health care services. The HRT possess a unique skill set, allowing them to comprehensively collect data, maintain information integrity and report health information in a responsible and knowledgeable way. The Health Record Technician will be responsible for producing timely high quality coded and abstracted data, monitor data quality and prepare submissions for CIHI and other specialty programs.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Successful completion of a 2-3 year diploma from a recognized Canadian Health Information Management Association recognized program (2085 hours)
- Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management & hold active certified membership in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
- Knowledge of National & Provincial legislation and NSHA/Area policies that govern Confidentiality, Privacy, and security of health information and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- 2 years of coding experience in the health information management field
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development including completion of 36 continuing education credits every three years post-graduation
- Current knowledge of data collection standards including Canadian Institute of Health Information standards (i.e. Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, Management Information System)
- Knowledge of health information systems (Solventum (Formerly 3M), Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Reporting system, & ADT system (MEDITECH /STAR)
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and good judgement
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated accountability, initiative and ability to work independently
- Demonstrated planning, organizing, prioritizing and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs- Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams & Outlook calendar
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
*A coding skills test will be administered as part of the selection process

Hours
- Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
- Approximately 12 months
- This is a hybrid position, consisting of a rotating schedule of shifts working both on site and from home
Compensation and Benefits
$29.44 - 31.57 Hourly
