About the Opportunity

 

Reporting to a Manager in the Emergency Preparedness program and working within Nova Scotia Health teams, the Emergency Preparedness Consultant is responsible for coordinating activities within the designated portfolio related to emergency planning and response. The Consultant will also be responsible for coordinating activities related to education & training, emergency exercising, emergency planning, response (including the support of the Incident Management System) and continuity planning. The Consultant works under the authority of the manager and is responsible for participating in the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of all components of a comprehensive and provincially integrated emergency preparedness program. The Consultant is committed to achieving the best outcomes in healthcare and service delivery, safe care, and continuous improvement to meet or exceed all accreditation and legislative requirements. 

About You

 

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • University Degree in Emergency/Disaster Management
    • or, an Advanced Diploma in Emergency Management with a demonstrated relevant combination of continuing education, training and progressive leadership experience may be considered
    • Master’s Degree in Emergency/Disaster Management or relevant field would be an asset
  • Three (3) years recent and related experience in the following areas:
    • Working in an Emergency Management program
      • Development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans, procedures, protocols, guidelines
    • Working in a Business Continuity Program
      • Development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans/Continuity of Operations Plans, procedures, protocols, guidelines
    • Delivering training and education to adults
    • Emergency Exercise Program e.g., Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) through FEMA
    • Working in intergovernmental relationships and strategic partnerships
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM); if not, a commitment to complete the designation within a specified time is required
  • Education and experience related to Business Continuity Planning or Continuity of Operations Program
    • Professional certification in BCP/COOP will be considered an asset

 

About You Continued

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning through continuing education in risk and emergency management, continuity planning, project and change management and response programs
  • Healthcare or Public Health emergency management experience an asset
  • Ability to lead with confidence, patience and integrity when interacting with professional leadership teams during emergencies;
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication, collaboration and coordination skills
  • Ability to work positively in stressful situations
  • Good project management skills. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the testing of emergency response, recovery support, and business resumption procedures
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to deal with conflicting demands and interruptions
  • Knowledge in the use of Windows, Microsoft Office products, internet and electronic mail
  • Experience engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participatory manner
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

 

Travel to various sites is required, must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

•    Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly 

Compensation and Benefits

 

Pay Scale Type:   Non-union

Band:   4

Hourly Rate:   $39.05 - $47.84 

Annual Salary:   $76,147.50 - $93,288
