About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Primary Health Care, the dietitian is responsible and accountable to provide competent, safe, and ethical nutrition care with patients and families of Newcomer Health Clinic.  Newcomer Health Clinic is a Primary Health Care clinic that provides full scope primary care services to Government Assisted Refugees, Privately Sponsored Refugees, and Refugee Claimants in the Halifax region.  Nutrition care services of this role include, but are not limited to, health promotion, illness prevention, screening, treatment and monitoring of people living with chronic health conditions.  Expertise may also be required to support people living with other health issues, along with community development and advocacy.  The incumbent will be required to collaborate with others to increase team capacity.  Services are provided within a holistic and client/family centered care framework.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
 

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from a recognized university
  • Accredited dietetic internship (1 year integrated or post graduate program)
  • Current Registration with Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists required
  • Annual continuing education to maintain Nova Scotia license
  • One year of clinical experience required
  • Primary care experience preferred
  • Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS certification is required
  • Designation as a Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
  • Experience with group education
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with principles of Motivational Interviewing and behaviour change counselling
  • Exhibits creative problem-solving ability; Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Access to a reliable transportation is required 
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent Part time; 37.5 Hours Bi-weekly 
  • Shifts may include evenings, weekends and holidays

Compensation and Benefits

$32.95- $43.42 Hourly
