The Care Team Assistant (CTA) is an unlicensed assistive personnel that functions under the supervision and direction of a licensed nurse. In collaboration with the licensed nurse, the CTA supports the delivery of patient care and provides direct patient care that has been deemed to be within the scope of practice for this role in the specific clinical setting.

The CTA is responsible and accountable for the assuring a person-centered approach to care in safe and competent manner. He/she is also accountable and responsible for their actions and understands the limits of their scope of employment in any given setting. Included in this responsibility will be recognizing when a delegated task is not within the limits of the job description/scope of employment and communicating this to the appropriate person.


  • Grade XII
  • Continuing Care Assistant Program plus certification (or equivalent as defined by the employer)
  • Nova Scotia Provincial CCA certification
  • Previous Long Term Care experience preferred
  • Alzheimer and Dementia Care courses preferred
  • Current CPR certification
  • Understands the principles of patient-focused care as it relates to a geriatric population
  • Understands the concepts of working within an interdisciplinary team as an approach to providing patient care
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Salary Information

$18.67 - $20.19 Hourly
