About the Opportunity

In conjunction with the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Pyxis Support Pharmacy Practice Assistant is responsible for the management of the pharmacy automated dispensing cabinet system (Pyxis®). The Pyxis Support Pharmacy Practice Assistant is responsible for monitoring the system to ensure the overall safe and effective use by nursing and pharmacy. They are also the main point of contact for both nursing and pharmacy and are responsible for answering questions and trouble-shooting problems and issues concerning the Pyxis system. In collaboration with the Pyxis Application Specialists and engineers and the Pharmacy Information Systems team, they are responsible for the processing of new equipment installations, implementing software and hardware upgrades and addressing technical concerns. The Pyxis Support Pharmacy Practice Assistant is highly trained to provide safe and effective quality pharmaceutical service throughout Central Zone in accordance with policy and procedures and is competent in solving hardware and software issues related to the Pyxis system.

 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technology Program (accredited program preferred) or equivalent experience (one year full-time experience as a hospital pharmacy practice assistant OR two years’ experience as a community pharmacy technician)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Able to travel to all sites within Central Zone, required
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
    • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within the Province of Nova scotia will be considered
    • If there are no candidates who meet the above qualification, Pharmacy Practice Assistants may be considered
  • Two to five years as a hospital pharmacy practice assistant experience an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy automation technology (such as Pyxis®) an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with providing education sessions and presentations an asset
  • Travel to other sites may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

Registered Technician: $24.96 - $27.89 Hourly

(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $23.19 - $26.27)
