The Atlantic Center for Ambulatory Surgery (ACAS) works collaboratively with Nova Scotia Health (NSH), the IWK Health Centre, and community oral surgery clinics to provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered ambulatory surgical care to Nova Scotians.
Reporting to the Health Services Manager of the OR Department at ACAS, the Surgical Operating Room (OR) Nurse is responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary surgical team.
The RN is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite and to promote the professional role and evaluate their own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The Nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes and is a patient advocate who provides a link between the units and the Operating Room.
This individual must also work in compliance with the hospital code of conduct and the provisions of health and safety policies and procedures, Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice.
About You
We want to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing
- One year of recent Operating Room experience and/or completion of a post graduate Operating Room course or O.R. certification required
- BLS-C (HCP) certification is required
- Recent experience in Orthopedics, Plastics, Oral Surgery and Pediatric experience.
- Possess strong positive attitude, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and function in emergency situations

- Permanent, part-time; 48 hours bi-weekly
- Monday - Friday 0730-1530
Compensation and Benefits
$50.29 hourly
