About the Opportunity
The Orthopaedic Technician reports to the Health Services Manager and works under the direction of a physician and in collaboration with other healthcare team members. The Orthopaedic Technician provides care to clients with orthopedic problems through the application, adjustment, and removal of a variety of casts, splints, braces, and traction fittings as well as the removal of pins, external fixators, staples, and sutures. The Orthopaedic Technician applies and removes dressings according to current wound care policies and practices. The Orthopaedic Technician provides both teaching and emotional support to patients and families. Demonstration/teaching of casting techniques and procedures are provided as required to medical students, residents, and nurses. The Orthopaedic Technician may be consulted in the emergency room or post-anesthetic care unit.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Grade XII, plus Orthopaedic Technology Program required
- Orthopaedic Technologist registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists preferred
- PT or OT therapy assistant knowledge would be an asset
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
- Strong organizational and priority setting skills
- Detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology as related to orthopedics
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- LPN, Paramedicine, or Kinesiology experience an asset
- Knowledge of Orthopedic equipment, supplies and devices
- Hand dexterity and mechanical aptitude
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

- Casual relief, no guaranteed hours
Compensation and Benefits
$26.30 - $32.02 Hourly
