About the Opportunity
Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians play a vital role in supporting safe, high-quality care to Nova Scotians. Technicians have detailed knowledge of reprocessing standards and quality assurance measures and are responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable medical devices used to support surgeries, as well as the care delivered in emergency departments, ambulatory service areas, primary care clinics, long term care facilities and more. Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians work in medical device reprocessing areas at hospitals across Nova Scotia, ensuring that our healthcare teams have the equipment they need to deliver care to Nova Scotians.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Grade 12
- Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (Course with practicum preferred)
- Where there are no applicants who have completed the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program, consideration for a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in Training may be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program or who commit to completing this program at their own expense within the first 12 months of employment (must submit proof of course enrollment within six weeks of being hired into the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in Training position).
- Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certification an asset
- Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
- Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred
- Experience operating MDR related equipment
- Knowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine Practices
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and comprehension
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to problem solve
- An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
- Computer experience
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation & Hours of Work
Medical Device Reprocessing Technician:
$21.78 - $24.68 hourly
Medical Device Reprocessing Technician-in-Training
$20.13
Positions include permanent, temporary and casual positions
Shifts can include days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays
