About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Allied Health Manager, the Social Worker is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of patient care on the inpatient Rehabilitation Unit as well as the coordination of case conferences, family meetings, individual and family therapy, discharge planning, and communication (both written and verbal) to the Criminal Code Review Board. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker will participate in the planning, development, provision and evaluation of inpatient forensic patient services and will participate in the implementation of recovery focused approach on the inpatient unit. The Social Worker will also participate in the delivery of education, prevention and health promotion programs, integrating it into clinical practice. The Social Worker will assist clients with problem solving and navigation of social, emotional, environmental, financial and legal challenges.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

 

  • Master of Social Work Degree from an accredited university.
  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work (NSCSW) and in good standing
  • Two years of clinical experience in an inpatient/outpatient mental health setting, providing independent assessment and treatment of adult mental health disorders required
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Code Review Board or the justice system is considered an asset
  • Competence in assessment and intervention (individual, family, and group)
  • Knowledge of acute and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge and competence in evidenced based interventions such as CBT, motivational interviewing, and brief solution-focused therapy
  • Evidence of knowledge and ability to complete mental health assessments, psychosocial assessments, suicide risk assessments, and evidence-based treatment
  • Familiarity with the DSM-V
  • Understanding of substance use and dependency.
  • Knowledge of standards and code of ethics that guide the profession.
  • Knowledge of and ability to link clients and families to community resources
  • Demonstrated accountability, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Strong client focus and ability to build solid client/practitioner relationships and advocate for clients
  • Demonstrated communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Long Assignment, Full-Time / 75 Hours Bi-weekly 
  • May 2025 to May 2026, approximately 12 months

Compensation and Benefits

$40.18 - $54.14 Hourly
