About the Opportunity
The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) provides sustainable safe and high-quality health services that are accessible, people-centered, promote health and wellness, and optimize the health of all Nova Scotians. This is accomplished in the Central Zone Tertiary Care Hospitals which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of specialized care including inpatient, outpatient, and community-based programs and services, including mental health and addictions, primary health care, public health, and continuing care.
Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance & Operations, the Assistant Manager is responsible for tactical level leadership to front-line staff in the coordination and management of plant operations, maintenance and small construction projects in the three largest health care facilities in the province
Responsible for supporting the Manager by providing leadership, directing and managing staff in the daily operations and prioritization of Zone facility services, contributing to the implementation and maintenance of standards, policies and procedures, job analysis, work flow routines, and staffing needs. Plans, organizes and directs the Maintenance/operations department (for responsible sites) for the operation, maintenance and repair of the physical Plant, buildings and grounds, as well as associated equipment and mechanical/electrical systems, to support the function of the facilities and to meet the needs of the patients, clients, and staff. Responsible to oversee and coordinate construction projects under $50,000; to participate in the tendering and awarding of service/renovation contracts and ensure proper implementation (i.e. standards maintained) and minimal interference with hospital staff and services.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Certified journeyperson or post-secondary education related to Maintenance/Operations required.
- 5 to 10 years progressive leadership experience in facilities management with at least 3 to 5 year experience in managing employees and resources required.
- The following would be considered an asset:
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in a healthcare environment.
- Experience managing a wide range of projects and stakeholder teams, committees, etc.
- Proven record of success working with staff, contractors, consultants, and clients.
- Ability to apply risk assessment and management principles and processes.
- Strong communication, planning, presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments, consultants, contractors, and all other stakeholders.
- Experience and competence in building operations and facilities management.
- Knowledge in use of data collection and reporting systems and other related Preventive Maintenance software programs. Must have well developed computer skills and be proficient in Micro soft word and excel programs.
- Organized with the ability to work in a fast paced, changing organization, responding to a variety of competing demands while working with minimal supervision.
- Sound knowledge of physical plant equipment, power distribution systems, computerized building management systems and preventative maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, prioritize, manage and coordinate infrastructure needs and complex infrastructure projects.
- Commitment to furthering education and to remaining current on all provincial & federal standards, laws and regulations as they apply
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice, and organizational health.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency response coordination in the event of extreme weather/natural disasters and preplanning for response strategy during external and internal systems failures.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

- Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits
$40.15 - $50.19 Hourly
