Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Food Services or Coordinator, Food Services, the Food Service Worker is responsible for the meal preparation, service and delivery and for the sanitation and cleaning related to the provision of safe, nutritious meal service to the clients served by the facility.  The Food Service Worker exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of the Service and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

 

Qualifications

  • Grade XII.
  • Successful completion of Food Handlers Course within the past five years.
  • Experience in health care food service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other staff, clients and management.
  • Willingness to learn, accept direction and work effectively in a team environment following established policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
  • Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position, including heavy lifting; to withstand the demands of walking and standing during shifts; to work in an environment with heat and temperature fluctuations; and to work flexible hours; traveling/working at other sites as required.
  • Regular attendance in current and previous employment.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours of Work

Casual Relief 

Shifts include days, nights and weekends.

Travel to various sites may be required.

Salary Information

$19.16 - $19.92 hourly
