About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Urgent Care Services - Mental Health & Addictions, the Crisis/Urgent Care Clinician provides advanced assessment, intervention, brief follow up and care planning for crisis/urgent care clients across the lifespan, with the goal of stabilization and connection to necessary Mental & Addictions services as required. The majority of consults are from the Emergency Department, but may also come from other services or departments both internal and external to Nova Scotia Health.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Master’s Degree in a health-related field such as Social Work or Psychology is required. Consideration may be given to other Masters health-related disciplines, with a clinical undergrad, based on demonstrated equivalencies
- Registered (or eligible) for licensure with appropriate licensing body (Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) or Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP)
- Two (2) years' clinical experience specific to Mental Health & Addictions; preference will be given to applicants with experience in conducting crisis response/urgent care risk assessments and consultation services in Emergency Departments and/or mobile crisis in the community
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Experience with or application of DSM
- Demonstrate strong skills in conducting mental status exams, focused on comprehensive assessment, and risk assessments
- Knowledge of legislation and responsibilities related to Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act (IPTA), Provincial Access Navigations Standards and Policies, Children & Family Services Act, Adult Protection Act and applicable NSH policy & standard
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Two (2) years related clinical experience (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning) is required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years’ experience may be considered for the selection process.
