About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Mental Health Services Manager functionally, and to the Mental Health Management team generally, the Occupational Therapist utilizes evidence-based and recovery-based practice to provide a range of services to clients who present with concerns related to their mental health and wellness. Within a psycho-social rehabilitation model, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for the assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of a client’s individual needs in order to assist them in maximizing their function in everyday life.

 

The Occupational Therapist will also be required to collaborate within a Mental Health Care Team and community partners/ organizations utilizing a holistic, client/ family centered approach.  In addition, the Occupational Therapist will be required to participate in initiating and facilitating mental health programs for health promotion and disease prevention, early identification and intervention and assessments of community needs.

 

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for ensuring compliance with acts, regulations and standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS), as well as acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the Department of Health and Wellness - Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA).

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Successful completion of a Masters or Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration (or eligbility) with the College of Occupational Therapists Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or concurrent substance abuse disorders an asset
  • Certificate in Psycho-Social Rehabilitation in Practice or willingness to obtain within one year of hire
  • Non-Violent Crisi Intervention, CPR, First Aid and WHMIS or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated flexibility in utilizing professional skill sets in a variety of service delivery models and settings.
  • Ability to use a client-centred approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate word processing applications, electronic mail, spread-sheets and the internet.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work independently and be accountable for all actions and decisions
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful Applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment

Hours

  • Permanent Full-time (100%) Position; 75.00 Hours Bi-weekly.

Compensation and Incentives

$33.80 - $42.68 Hourly
