About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health is seeking dedicated Perfusionists to join our Department of Perfusion Services within the Perioperative Care Division. This role reports to the Health Services Manager and plays a vital part in supporting both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery patients. 

 

Based at the Halifax Infirmary (adult services) and the Isaak Walton Killam (IWK) Health Centre (pediatric services), the department performs approximately 1,100 cardiopulmonary bypass procedures each year—and that’s just the beginning of the impact you'll make.

 

As a Perfusionist with Nova Scotia Health, you’ll also be involved in:

  • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support

  • Ventricular assist devices (VADs)

  • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) therapy

  • Autologous blood recovery systems

  • Multidisciplinary support for complex procedures including liver transplants

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Perfusion Technology (students currently enrolled in an accredited program are strongly encouraged to apply)
  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, or Canadian certification eligible (with a requirement to obtain this certification within the first two years of employment)
  • Certification with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion with proof of eligibility for Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion prior to employment (Canadian certification must be obtained within the first two years of employment)
  • Possession of a recognized degree in a science or health care discipline an asset
  • Two years of clinical perfusion experience an asset, but recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass procedures is an asset
  • Must be able to work under pressure and cope in emergency situations while demonstrating strong teamwork skills
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of self-development in ensuring current and competent service
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in research and quality assurance development
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-time positions; 75 hours bi-weekly 

Compensation and Benefits

$52.94 - $66.70 hourly
