The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Supply and Distribution, the Utility Worker works as part of a team to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: moving furniture and/or equipment, including transport of cribs/beds/cots between units; transporting lab specimens to/from the Mackenzie Building and Tupper Research and within the Health Centre; picking/packing/delivering stock supplies requisitioned from the Stores area, completing the required paperwork and cleaning up materials; delivering throughout the Health Centre, items from Pharmacy, portable medical gas cylinders, prepared sterile items, clean case carts and clean instrument carts; collecting soiled linen and soiled instrument carts; completing exchange cart quotas and unit top-up quotas; dealing with customer inquiries/orders (including telephone requests) in a timely and professional manner, ensuring all necessary information is logged; providing relief for the Dispatch Clerk during absences from the Distribution desk; preparing and delivering medical/surgical and I.V. bins to the Birth Unit and collecting and sorting returned items to the bin prep area in Distribution; delivering direct purchase items from the Receiving area to ordering departments and ensuring that proper documentation is processed; providing after hours coverage of the CSPD, Laundry areas and the Pharmacy night cupboard; preparing linen distribution carts for delivery; delivering various linen carts as required; other related duties as assigned.

Hours of Work

Saturday and Sunday; 7:00am to 3:00pm

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Previous work experience in Supply and Distribution an asset
  • Able to attend and complete scheduled shifts on a regular and timely basis
  • Flexibility in performing daily work assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize daily tasks to ensure the needs of our customers are met
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently and to make sound decisions with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of hospital layout, computerized inventory systems and prior experience working in a team setting, preferred
  • Competency in other languages an asset.
