The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager for Pediatric Critical Care, with professional accountability to the Chief of Respiratory Therapy. The Registered Respiratory Therapist is an integral member of the health care team who interacts with other health care professionals, families and patients to ensure safe delivery of respiratory care and the application of respiratory therapy techniques. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•    Airway management / intubation / airway care
•    Oxygen / humidity therapy
•    Mechanical ventilation including HFFOV
•    Special gas administration e.g. NO, N2
•    Surfactant therapy
•    Special team member: High Risk Delivery, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, PICU, NICU, Air Medical Transport
•    Arterial puncture
•    Aerosol delivery
•    Participate in Research Studies
•    Student education
•    Hemodynamic monitoring

Hours of Work

Rotating shifts, 11.25 hrs, as per self-scheduling guidelines

Your Qualifications

  • Diploma in Respiratory Therapy required; Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapist (NSCRT) required.
  • Current NRP, PALS and ACLS required within the last 12 months required or currently enrolled.
  • Successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
  • Demonstrated clinical and technical competence in a Neonatal/Pediatric/Adult setting.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated competence in communication, interpersonal relations, problem solving, computer applications and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep current in therapeutic and technological advances in respiratory care.
