The Opportunity
Researchers within IWK Health Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) in collaboration with IM/IT Business Intelligence are recruiting a Data Engineer:
The Data Engineer will work closely with the IM/IT Business Intelligence team to gain valuable hands-on experience in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, as well as managing data infrastructure on behalf of the IWK Health Mental Health and Addictions team. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills, explore cutting-edge tools, and contribute to meaningful data-driven projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in designing, building, and maintaining batch or real-time data pipelines in production environments
- Support the maintenance and optimization of data infrastructure for accurate data extraction, transformation, and loading from diverse sources
- Collaborate in developing ETL (extract, transform, load) processes for data extraction and manipulation from multiple sources
- Help automate workflows like data ingestion, aggregation, and ETL processing
- Prepare raw data in the Enterprise Data Warehouse for use by both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Partner with analysts and functional leaders to support the deployment of machine learning models in production
- Contribute to building, maintaining, and deploying data assets for analytics and data teams on cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure)
- Participate in ensuring data accuracy, integrity, privacy, security, and compliance through quality control procedures
- Assist in monitoring data systems performance and implementing optimization strategiestifications
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours shift. Position is based in Halifax (remote or hybrid)
Your Qualifications
We encourage you to apply for this position should you meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or professional program certification from relevant health, informatics, computer science, engineering, business/commerce, or sciences faculty or technical college
- Solid analytical skills, high attention to detail, excellent communicator, flexibility with shifting focus, open to feedback, ability to independently solve problems.
- Ability to work independently and with a team, adapt well to complex environments, and comfortable working in loosely structured environments
- Experience using SSIS, SQL, Python, R or similar tools,
- MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Teams, Azure DevOPs Kanban boards and SharePoint and willingness to learn innovative technologies and applications.
Assets:
- Master’s degree in program focused on Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Management and Technology, or Business/Commerce
- Previous role in a health care setting.
- Strong project management skills. PMP certification is considered an asset.
- Experience working with clinical data, ability to discern clinical data elements and categorize, ability to identify overall themes.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate rr Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate or Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate
- Proficient in integrating on-premises databases with Power BI to develop comprehensive reporting and data analysis solutions.
