The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Women’s Ambulatory, Perioperative, Breast Health, General Gynecology, Dartmouth Clinic & Community Midwifery Team, the Physiotherapist is responsible for the management of pelvic health physiotherapy practice (general gyne/pelvic health referrals, team member chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor pathway, program development, and educational sessions). The Physiotherapist assesses and treats patients on receipt of a referral while maintaining liaison with medical staff and other interdisciplinary team members. The Physiotherapist participates in the professional development of services through care team meetings, working groups, and subcommittees as appropriate. The Physiotherapist will also participate in the education of patients and families, IWK Health staff, and affiliated students. As a member of the physiotherapy service, the Physiotherapist will share responsibility with all IWK Physiotherapist’s for caseload coverage throughout IWK Health as required.

Hours of Work

Shifts Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per shift. Weekend standby and call back coverage on a rotational basis. 30 hours bi-weekly.

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) approved Physiotherapy Program required.
  • Licensed, or eligble to be licensed, to practice by the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists (NSCP) required.
  • Registered, or eligible for membership, in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association required. 
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience in pelvic health physiotherapy (involving internal pelvic examinations) required. 
  • Completion of the following Pelvic Health courses:
    • The Physical Therapy Approach to Female Urinary Incontinence (or equivalent)
    • Advanced course in Dyspareunia and/or Pelvic Pain 
    • Physiotherapy for Ano-Rectal Disorders
  • Clinical experience in chronic pain program preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred (for centre-wide coverage responsibilities).
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention for women’s health required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings as well as the ability to work independently required.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, organization and problem-solving skills required.
