The Opportunity
A member of the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Program (NSBSP), the Nurse Navigator is a Registered Nurse (RN) who works with individuals and other health care providers in the navigation of breast imaging and care through the health system until time of definitive diagnosis. The NSBSP Nurse Navigator provides support to patients with receiving results, communication, and referrals. The role acts as a provincial resource for the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Program and, in addition to the coordination role, will participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of other program initiatives to support the strategic direction of the program.
Hours of Work
Monday - Friday; 75 hours biweekly
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing
- Active registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required
- CNA Specialty Nursing Certification considered an asset
- Knowledge of primary care and/or cancer care, including prevention, screening, and early detection
- Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and sensitivity
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with patients and other health care providers exhibiting characteristics of warmth, empathy, and a non-judgmental philosophy of care
- Demonstrated competence in team building, conflict management, and effective communications
- Demonstrated leadership skills including effective decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Proven organizational and priority setting skills
- Ability to be innovative and creative in order to develop strategies that successfully meet the needs of a diverse patient, family, and provider populations
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member
- Demonstrated commitment and contribution to continuous improvement and innovation
- Computer skills including, Complete Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Millenium, Meditech and other applications as required
- Competencies in other languages an asset
