The Opportunity

The IWK Mental Health and Addictions program (MHA) provides services to children and adolescents within a stepped model of care at the local, provincial, and Maritime levels. MHA provides clinical services in partnership with a wide range of service providers to achieve the best possible outcomes and strives to include identified caregivers as partners to support recovery. MHA services are provided by teams located in schools, community clinics, corrections facilities, emergency departments, hospital clinics, community organizations, intensive day and 24/5 and 24/7 rehabilitative services, and acute psychiatry inpatient services. 

We have a teaching, training, and research mandate that seeks to enhance the skills of health care providers, support trainees and develop emerging leaders in mental health related disciplines. 

The Education Coordinator, Mental Health and Addictions, will support the education and training initiatives within our interdisciplinary Mental Health and Addictions program. Assists in the scheduling and coordination of MHA Programs and maintenance of records and appropriate dissemination of materials. The incumbent works closely with team members to develop, coordinate, and evaluate educational programs, training sessions, and materials that enhance the delivery of mental health and addiction services. 

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, some evening work as needed

Your Qualifications

  • Masters degree in health-related field preferred
  • Baccalaureate degree in a health discipline (such as, nursing, social work). Must be licensed to practice with the relevant health discipline college/association within the province of Nova Scotia.
  • Experience working within the field of Adult Education required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of program development, implementation and evaluation approaches required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of adult learning principles and best practice
  • Experience in program development and project management
  • Coordinates all new hire Orientation, programs, and training for MHA staff.
  • Coordinates tracking process staff mandatory courses, education, and training for MHA staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Demonstrated initiative and innovative problem solving.
  • Experience engaging and working collaboratively with team members.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, word, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
  • Must have a valid NS driver’s license.
