Position Summary

Reporting to the clinical manager, Community Mental Health and Addictions, the Psychologist practices as a member of a new interprofessional team that will provide services to children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum and other neurodevelopmental disorders.  The Brief Intensive Outreach Service (BIOS) will provide assessments, treatment planning and community based interventions to children, adolescents and their families who are experiencing acute extreme aggressive behaviour toward self and others that is impacting the child’s functioning in home, school and or community environments.  The psychologist will work in collaboration with the family, local clinical team and community partners to provide specialized intensive services, consultation and capacity building support in naturalistic settings to achieve greater generalization of skills and sustain stabilization in the community. 

Hours of Work

7.5 hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 0830-1630, with some evenings. Flexibility is required


•    Doctoral degree (Ph.D./PsyD) in Clinical Psychology.
•    Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the NS Board of Examiners in Psychology.
•    Minimum three (3) years clinical experience working at the doctoral level with children and adolescents with mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular autism spectrum disorders required.
•    Demonstrated experience and competency in ASD treatment for parents, children and adolescents required.
•    Demonstrated expertise with the principles of behavioral management and expertise devising intervention plans that incorporate PRT, PBS, and other supports (PECS) based on the needs of individual children with autism required.
•    Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family centred care and evidence informed practice required.
•    Demonstrated experience and competency in collaborative practices required.
•    Demonstrated experience in clinical supervision
•    Demonstrated leadership skills to work effectively both independently and as part of an interprofessional team required.
•    Demonstrated excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills required.
•    Knowledge and experience with continuous quality improvement methodology
•    Knowledge of IWK Mental Health and Addictions Services, Children’s Health Autism Services and community resources
•    Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.
•    Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
•    Good attendance and work record.
•    Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
