About This Opportunity

Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) and Digby General Hospital (DGH) are seeking emergency physicians to fill a 1.5 FTE between the two hospitals. Both hospitals are located in the southwest region of Nova Scotia and serve the population of approximately 60,000, in three counties. The successful candidate may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Yarmouth and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University. YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 58,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties. Located in Yarmouth, YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs:

DGH, historically founded in 1924, provides medical care to residents of the surrounding areas including primary, inpatient, restorative, and ambulatory care as well as day surgery. Located in Digby, the 20-bed medical and alternate level of care (ALC) unit works closely with the collaborative emergency centre (CEC) in Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. DGH also has a 13-bed restorative care unit that supports patients through rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • examine patients, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
  • advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
  • consult and refer to other medical practitioners
  • act as a patient advocate
  • prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations

Expected Hours

  • full-time between YRH and DGH
