About This Opportunity
The Hospitalist Medicine Service (HMS) at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax is seeking hospitalists to join our team. The QEII functions as community hospital for Halifax and the tertiary/quaternary care center for Nova Scotia and the Atlantic provinces. The HMS covers 118 beds at the QEII across both the Halifax Infirmary and Victoria General sites, with future expansion expected. There is opportunity for part-time and full-time positions, effective immediately. Remuneration is daily provincial rate; night call is via stipend and facility-on-call fee.
HMS offers a team approach to inpatient care. We seek hospitalists who will model excellence in general medical care, have superb communication skills with patients and families, and who work well in team settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct inpatient care for patients admitted to the HMS, QEII
- Provide a full range of clinical care inpatient care, in keeping with the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine’s Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine
- Most responsible physician (MRP) coverage for admitted patients, ensuring all laboratory, imaging consultation and other reports are received and reviewed daily
- Equitable participation in after-hours call coverage
- Participation in daily flow discussions
- Embrace the Home First Philosophy of NS Health in efficient discharge planning with focus on expected length of stay with patient/caregivers at time of admission
- Participate in HMS quality improvement, operational and research initiatives
- Attend site-based physician meetings
- Demonstrate commitment to delivering the highest quality care and maintenance of competence
- Demonstrate an interest in teaching, as HMS is an established core teaching service with Dalhousie Family Medicine
Expected Hours
- Full time (2 weeks per month) or part time (variable)
- Schedule is flexible
- Equitable participation in weekend call (minimum 1:4 for full time)
- Equitable participation in night call (minimum 1-2 nights per week covered)
Qualifications
- all applications must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS); all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
- all applicants must have membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- active with admitting privileges at QEII site via NSH Credentialing Committee
- all applicants must have up to date ACLS certification
- membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, Canadian Chapter is encouraged
- academic teaching appointment with Dalhousie University is an asset
