About the Opportunity

The Division of Neurology in Central Zone is recruiting to the position of fulltime hospitalist. The position will involve provision of care to patients admitted to the inpatient neurology unit, primarily the Acute Stroke Unit, at the Halifax Infirmary. The position will be available on January 1st, 2022 and is a term position until September 30, 2022.

The Division of Neurology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and provides inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth services for Nova Scotia Health as well as the Maritime Provinces. The Acute Stroke Unit is the tertiary/quaternary centre for stroke care in Nova Scotia and provides specialized care including endovascular thrombectomy to patients from across the province.

The inpatient neurology unit is a 30 bed unit based on 7.4 at the Halifax Infirmary. The majority of patients are under the Stroke Team, an excellent interdisciplinary team that includes nurse practitioner and allied health care members. Overall care is supervised by an attending neurologist who rounds daily and oversees acute stroke management decisions. The hospitalist position has been newly created to facilitate inpatient care during a temporary period of reduced neurology manpower.

Responsibilities

  • The hospitalist will be responsible for the daytime general medical management of patients on the service, with potential rounding on weekends.
  • There is no nighttime call.

The Acute Stroke Unit offers a unique team approach to inpatient care where the opinions and knowledge of others is valued; information is exchanged openly and respectfully; problem solving is strong and creative; and communication with patients is effective and thoughtful. We seek a hospitalist who will model excellence in general medical care, have superb communication skills with patients and their families, and work well in team settings.

Qualifications

Interested candidates who are certified members in good standing with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS), should send curriculum vitae with names and addresses of three referees to ian.grant@nshealth.ca.   A comprehensive remuneration and benefits package through an alternative funding plan will apply.
