About This Opportunity

New Germany is a rural inland community which is the centre of a group of communities in Lunenburg County on South Shore of Nova Scotia.  This Riverside community straddles the shores of the LaHave River, and is just 25 minutes from Bridgewater.  The local medical center is looking for one or more physicians to provide family medicine locum coverage to our community.
The clinic is located nearby our local pharmacy. It is a collaborative practice with two Nurse Practitioners. There is easy access to lab and x-ray services and a network of supportive specialist colleagues from the nearby regional center. This locum opportunity can be shaped around your schedule and interests. 
Funding is through the rural locum program with a guaranteed daily rate as well as remuneration for travel. The minimum guaranteed daily rate is $800 per day, with a $175 per diem daily rate. A locum physician can cover for another physician for a maximum of 30 days per year. The community is enthusiastic and eager to make new physicians feel welcome and can assist in finding accommodations if needed.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures; advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
  • consultation and referral to other medical practitioners’
  • act as a patient’s advocate
  • prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations
  • report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements
