About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Child & Adolescent - Mental Health & Addictions, the clinician provides services directly in the school community environment within the designated SchoolsPlus schools. SchoolsPlus is a collaborative model that is comprehensive and student focused. Partners work together to educate and provide service to the child and their family, with the school as the center of the service. The clinician is a member of a school-based multidisciplinary team and participates in the planning, development, provision and evaluation of mental health services for the assigned population in designated school settings. The service will focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders for children and adolescent within the school population. The clinician will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health services.

 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of Masters in Psychology, Masters in Social Work, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy, or other Counselling program
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP), Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers (NSCSW), Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN), College of Occupational Therapy Nova Scotia (COTNS), or Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapy (NSCCT).
  • Minimum of two years' clinical experience required, including assessment and planning, as well, treatment and intervention. Experience providing services to children & adolescents required.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention, CPR, First Aid and WHMIS training or willingness to obtain
  • Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Short-Term Solution- Focused Therapy, as applicable to the position
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • A demonstrated professional and clinical knowledge base appropriate to the field of child and youth mental health is essential, including knowledge of DSM, behaviour management, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), group therapy and brief therapy.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision making skills.
  • A vision of client/family centered care and an ability to develop therapeutic relationships.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of health promotion and community resources.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with a variety of computer software and programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent Part Time (50%) position; 37.5 hours bi weekly

Compensation and Incentives

$36.59 - $48.09 Hourly
